Student Leadership

Building on the success of the work Inspiring Leaders provides for adults, and with the support of our strategic partners, we have now developed our first ever Student Leadership Conference which will take place in September 2022. This year’s conference theme, chosen by our young people is ‘Sustainability into action to transform our world’ with the seminars linked to the United Nations’ 17 sustainable goals.

.

"I'm really excited for the pupils in my Trust Schools to be able to access this event. To hear from Maggie Alphonsi and take part in the other elements of the conference is such an amazing opportunity."

Our conference aims

The event will engage 300 pupils who partake in arrange of enriching sessions during the day, which will include a keynote input from former World Cup winning Rugby captain Maggie Alphonsi MBE, and further speakers to be confirmed. Pupils will be involved in seminars during the day led by our charity partners which link to the aforementioned UN Sustainability goals.

Every pupil will have a tour of the University campus led by a student ambassador enabling them to see the facility and opportunities on offer to them as they progress in their education, which will help raise their aspirations for the future.

All of the pupils who attend our conference will be provided with funding to continue to make an impact in their schools. We will fund each school to develop a project focussing on social action which we will monitor during the year and celebrate at our school/MAT leader conference later in the year.

Our event, and the ongoing work of our students has been made possible due to the kind donations of local business partners who will help to make the event a success. We are extremely grateful for their support and passion for enabling pupils to become young leaders and to make a difference in the world.

Nottingham Institute of Education at Nottingham Trent University is one of the foremost providers of education and training for teachers and other learning and development professionals. Our courses and research span all phases of learning and development, from the early years through to adult education.

We have extensive partnership links with over 600 early-years settings, primary schools, secondary schools, colleges and academies across the East Midlands. Our latest Ofsted inspection praised these partnerships, recognising the strength of our links with local schools and the range of specialist placements for trainee teachers, giving them access to high-quality training.

Our links with our partners and our broad range of expertise enable us to develop and support our students at every level, through undergraduate degrees, postgraduate training, Masters degrees and doctorates, and continuing professional development (CPD) and leadership development for in-post educators.

We have a growing international reputation, but we have not lost touch locally; our staff work regularly with children and teachers in schools across the Midlands, helping to improve practice, raise standards and change lives.

We deliver happiness.

That might sound a little idealistic but it’s the reason we get out of bed in the morning.

At Bunches we believe that business can and should have a positive impact. Bunches doesn’t exist simply to create profits. We want to make a difference to people and to our world.

Our values haven’t changed since we started selling flowers under an umbrella back in 1989. Bunches is family-owned, so we’re all about relationships, whether that be with our customers, suppliers or our staff. We have the pleasure of selling a product that brings joy to others and aim to do so fairly and to the highest standard.

Bunches has always been committed to giving a minimum of 10% of profits to working with the poor either in the UK or largely in the developing world. As far as we’re concerned this doesn’t just mean signing a cheque and then walking away. We are actively involved in deciding how these funds are managed and providing other, practical support too.

We do everything under the same roof, this means all of our staff members are trained to Bunches’ high standards, from our production team who are responsible for packing and quality-checking your flowers, to our friendly customer support team who are there to answer any questions you may have. They’re all an integral part of the Bunches family!

Of course, we’re not perfect and we know we’re never going to be. It’s really important that we understand this because when we’re aware that we’ve not got everything right we can look for ways to improve. We want to get better. Constantly.
