Welcome to the Flying High Hub of Inspiring Leaders Initial Teacher Training.
I have had the pleasure of leading this hub since we opened to our first trainees in 2015. I still see many of those first trainees when I visit our schools or at Flying High events; but now they are experienced teachers developing subjects in their schools, being mentors to current trainees and making a difference to children every day.
By training with Flying High, you are joining a professional family, with people around you who want you to succeed and bring your own individual talents and interests to our schools.

Flying High is a partnership of more than 50 vibrant primary, infant and junior schools across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, each with their own unique identity, but each holding true to our core mission to make ‘every day count’ for our children. At Flying High we place children at the heart of every decision we make and aim for our schools to become the best in the universe through collaboration, support and accountability.
For you as a trainee, this means that you know you will be placed in a school that is fully invested in the programme (many of our graduates work in them after all!) and where you will be steeped in the Flying High ethos and benefit from the high level of CPD and innovation that the staff enjoy.
In 2021, Flying High was selected as a centre of excellence for teacher training and development by the Department of Education. As one of just 87 teaching school hubs across England, Flying High play a significant role in coordinating and delivering high-quality professional development to teachers at all stages of their careers across the Nottinghamshire area. This includes provision for Early Career Teachers and so your connection with us can continue. From initial teacher training to leadership development, we are committed to supporting teachers in growing throughout their careers.

We have planned our taught programme to interweave with your school placement so that you have time to reflect on and apply new learning before moving onto the next step.
Face to face sessions are led by the Flying High team of Lead Practitioners and Curriculum Specialist Teachers – exceptional practitioners, who work across our schools, keeping at the cutting edge of teaching and learning. They will provide you with exciting and innovative training, in the way only a primary school teacher can!
Through our partnership with NTU, we equip our trainees to be lifelong learners and to continue to engage with research and evidence-based best practice. You will enjoy 13 days on campus, benefitting from the extensive knowledge of the academic tutors and having full access to the NTU libraries, both physical and online. By achieving 60 masters credits, with your PGCE you open the door to future study at masters level.
Your well-being is of paramount importance to us – by knowing you as an individual and ensuring you are part of a team, we make sure you have the tailored support you need. In school you will work alongside a Class Mentor. A second member of the school team will be your Learning Coach, who will meet you weekly. Our small team of Professional Tutors will visit you on placements and maintain regular contact. We also invest time in supporting our trainees in building a cohesive peer network to genuinely care for and support each other through the training year.
We want to recruit, support and invest in teachers with the passion to provide outstanding opportunities and experiences for our pupils. With many of our former trainees now successful teachers and leaders in our Flying High schools, we know we have made many dreams come true. If you would like to talk to any of our trainees about their training experience, please do get in touch.
