A Passion for Teacher Education
We are committed to being a leading provider of high-quality initial teacher training (ITT)
We know at Discovery that if we want children to have the best possible education that they need to be taught by the best teachers. The way that this can happen is to train our own.
We became a government accredited provider of ITT with our partners in 2014 and have since been recognised by OFSTED as an outstanding provider.
Our programme is school centered with a focus on learning whilst based in schools and from our best leaders and subject experts. Each of our schools is committed to hosting, training and mentoring new teachers. We work closely with the University of Leicester to award PGCE for our trainees
Within Discovery all schools, leaders and pupils are encouraged to share their expertise and knowledge to help everyone reach their full potential. We are one of five key stakeholders of Inspiring Leaders Today, a group that shares the collective belief that endeavour to to develop confident, ethical and aspirational school leaders of the future. This ensures a golden thread of opportunity weaves through a trainee journey from ITT to their Early Career and beyond.

Since 2011 the Discovery Trust and wider partnership has trained over 250 teachers many of whom work in our schools now. Additionally we have an excellent training and support programme in place for teachers in their first 3 years of teaching to help them feel well supported as they become established teachers. This is led by our excellent specialists, mentors and coaches and is something we invest in getting right.
Discovery prides itself on the wide range of opportunities we provide for our Teachers to continue to develop, improve and thrive in the profession. All of our Teachers have a personal career plan which helps them think about their next professional steps and how to build towards achieving these goals.
One of the values of Discovery is integrity and this is evident in all our work. We believe in acting in the best interests of our children, staff, trainees, and stakeholders to ensure our decisions are grounded in what is the right thing to do. We go above and beyond to support trainees and that’s because we care about your journey, the experiences our children get and most of all about leading successful schools, which what our children deserve.
One thing that stands out about our approach to Teacher Training is the positivity of our trainees. We invest time in creating a group bond and getting to know each other well. Relationships are right at the heart of having a successful career in teaching and we work hard to ensure that our trainees have good professional capital with their peers and colleagues in placement schools.
